Smallholder farmers manage vast areas of land, presenting a significant opportunity for hyper-scalable re-forestation. However, these farmers often encounter obstacles when choosing to grow trees. Many see more benefits in cutting down trees than in growing them, which has stalled the restoration of the world’s forests. Ziimba eliminates these barriers and partners with farmers to leverage tree cultivation in enhancing their livelihoods.

Planet

The demand for wood in Sub-Saharan Africa has surged due to rapid population growth and urbanization. As a result, trees—a crucial resource—are becoming increasingly scarce. This scarcity is worsened by the relentless deforestation needed to meet the rising demand. Yet, all current plantations across the continent cannot support this escalating need, further depleting the tree supply. Ziimba is working diligently with smallholders farmers to expand forested areas, and create vital sustainable wood resources.

Profit

Trees hold the potential to transform millions of farmers' lives in Africa. The continent is on a trajectory to become a net wood importer by 2030, a trend that can only be reversed by mobilizing smallholder farmers. The opportunity lies in monetizing their vast, unproductive land—currently bare and degrading—by planting trees across their millions of hectares. Ziimba is putting this land to productive use, significantly improving farmers' livelihoods, and ultimately leading to substantial profits through sustainable tree farming.
